Entryway Benches
Solid Wood Entryway Benches, Handcrafted in the USA
The entryway is the first thing people see and the last thing they touch on the way out. It's a working space — boots come off, bags get dropped, keys land somewhere — but it's also the room that sets the tone for everything behind it. A bench that's built well handles the daily abuse and still looks like it belongs. That's a harder combination to find than it should be.
At Artisan Born, our entryway benches are handcrafted in our Missouri workshop from solid domestic hardwoods. No veneers, no MDF cores, no shortcuts. Each piece is made to order, which means the dimensions, wood species, and finish are chosen for your space — not pulled from a warehouse shelf.

Wood Species
We build entryway benches in four hardwoods, each with a distinct character:
- White Oak — Warm, neutral, and broadly versatile. Its tight grain and subtle ray fleck work equally well in modern, transitional, farmhouse, and Scandinavian interiors. The most popular choice for a reason.
- Black Walnut — Deep chocolate tones with sweeping grain that shifts in different light. Walnut brings richness and sophistication to a foyer without needing anything else in the room to compete with it.
- Live Edge Walnut — The natural slab edge is preserved as-is, giving each bench a silhouette that's entirely its own. No two are alike. For entryways where the bench is meant to be noticed.
- Maple — Pale, smooth, and tight-grained. Maple stays quiet and lets the form lead — the right call when the design is minimal and the wood should support rather than speak.
Common Bench Sizes
Entryway benches are typically sized to the wall or alcove they occupy:
- 36–42" — Compact; fits a single-person entry, a narrow hallway, or the foot of a bed
- 48–54" — The most common range; seats two comfortably and suits most standard entryways and mudrooms
- 60–72" — For wider foyers, mudroom built-ins, or long hallway walls where the bench anchors the space
Custom lengths and heights are available — if your space has specific requirements, we build to them.
Beyond the Entryway
The same bench that works at the front door works just as naturally at the foot of a bed, along a dining room wall, in a mudroom, or beneath a window. Solid wood furniture doesn't have one job. It goes where the room needs it and stays there for decades.
Wood Finish Options
Choose clear satin polyurethane for a durable, low-maintenance surface that handles contact and moisture well — perfect for walnut.
Or select Rubio Monocoat in natural, white, cotton white, light grey, dark grey, or matte black for a matte penetrating oil finish that keeps the wood looking and feeling like wood — and can be spot-repaired without refinishing the whole piece.
- Natural — An understated oil finish that keeps the oak looking honest and organic, bringing out its pale honey tones, grain movement, and natural variation from board to board.
- Clear Satin — A refined clear coat with a gentle sheen, giving the surface a slightly more polished feel while letting the original white oak character remain front and center.
- White — A bright, clean finish that gives the stool a lighter, more finished look, ideal for spaces that lean airy, classic, coastal, or farmhouse-inspired.
- Cotton White — A warmer white option with a softer presence, offering a muted, creamy look that feels less stark while still keeping the overall style light.
- Light Grey — A cool, easygoing grey finish that softens the oak’s natural warmth and creates a more neutral appearance while retaining subtle wood texture.
- Dark Grey — A bold grey tone with added depth, giving the piece a more grounded, modern feel without completely hiding the oak’s natural pattern.
- Matte Black — A smooth black finish with minimal shine, creating a strong, tailored look that adds contrast and a more contemporary edge.
Leg Style Options
- U-Shape — A sturdy, squared metal base with a clean architectural profile. This style gives the stool a grounded, modern look and works especially well when you want a more structured, substantial base beneath the wood seat.
- Hair Pin — A lighter, open-frame leg style with a slim metal silhouette. Hairpin legs create a more airy appearance, making them a great choice when you want the stool to feel less visually heavy while still keeping a handcrafted industrial touch.
Leg Finish Options
- Matte Black — A muted black coating that frames the wood with crisp contrast, adding definition without drawing attention away from the seat.
- Hammered Steel — A weathered metal look with a gently uneven surface, bringing movement, texture, and a shop-forged feel to the base.
- Satin Bronze — A mellow bronze finish with warm undertones, offering a refined accent that pairs naturally with oak’s earthy color range.
- Satin Steel — A soft silver-toned finish with a clean reflective quality, giving the legs a lighter, more contemporary appearance while keeping the overall design balanced.
Built for Everyday Use
Each stool is crafted only after you order, giving you room to choose the size, height, and leg style that works best for your layout. We use solid hardwood from top to bottom — never veneer-covered panels, filler materials, or mass-production shortcuts. The result is dependable, made-to-order seating built by hand in the USA for daily meals, busy kitchens, and years of use.
Custom and Live Edge Options
Because each bench is built to order in our Missouri workshop, you are not limited to standard dimensions or a one-size-fits-all design. We can adjust the length, height, wood species, finish, and leg style to better fit your entryway, mudroom, bedroom, or hallway. For a more organic statement piece, choose live edge walnut, where the natural edge of the slab is preserved to give each bench its own one-of-a-kind shape, grain movement, and character.
