These are built from solid American black walnut, milled and finished by hand, and designed to be on your wall for decades.

We offer two distinct styles: live edge and flat edge. Both are solid walnut. Both are finished the same way. The difference is in the character of the wood itself — and which one is right for you comes down to the feeling you want in the room.

Live Edge Walnut Floating Shelves

Live edge shelves preserve the natural outer edge of the walnut slab — the organic, uncut boundary where the tree's bark once was. No two are alike. The edge may curve gently, dip slightly, or carry a subtle wave. The sapwood — the lighter, creamy-blonde wood just inside the bark — often appears along the edge, creating a natural contrast against the deep chocolate heartwood.

Live edge shelves work beautifully in spaces where you want the wood to be the focal point. They're a natural fit for organic, earthy interiors, but they hold their own in modern and minimalist rooms too — a single live edge shelf above a desk or sofa can anchor an entire wall without competing with anything around it.

Flat Edge Walnut Floating Shelves

Flat edge shelves are milled to clean, straight lines on all sides. The focus shifts entirely to the grain and color of the walnut itself — and walnut has plenty to offer. The heartwood runs from warm caramel to deep espresso brown, with flowing grain patterns that shift in the light. A flat edge shelf is refined, versatile, and works in virtually any interior style.

If you're building a gallery wall, a kitchen open-shelf setup, or a home office with multiple shelves at different heights, flat edge is typically the right call. The clean geometry keeps things cohesive, and the walnut grain does the rest of the work.

About the Wood

American black walnut (Juglans nigra) is one of the most prized domestic hardwoods in North America. It's dense, stable, and naturally resistant to warping — which makes it an excellent choice for floating shelves that need to hold real weight without flexing over time. The grain is typically straight with occasional waves or curls, and the color deepens beautifully with age and light exposure.

We use no veneers, no MDF, and no engineered wood. Every shelf is solid walnut through and through. You can see it on the end grain. You can feel it in the weight. And if it ever gets a scratch or a scuff years from now, it can be sanded and refinished — something you simply cannot do with a veneer product.

Each shelf ships with a concealed steel mounting bracket system. Installation is straightforward — a level, a drill, and about 20 minutes. No visible hardware once it's on the wall.

Every shelf in this collection is handcrafted in our workshop in the United States. We source our walnut domestically, mill it ourselves, and finish each piece by hand. Lead times are listed on each product page so you know exactly when to expect your order.
