Wide Bookshelves
Fill the Wall. Finally.
Most bookshelves are sized for a showroom floor, not a real wall. They're narrow enough to fit anywhere, which means they never quite fit anywhere perfectly. A wide bookshelf is different. It commits to the wall. It fills the space. It turns an empty expanse of drywall into the most intentional surface in the room.
Done right, a wide solid wood bookshelf isn't just storage — it's the thing the room is organized around. The piece that makes everything else in the space feel considered. The furniture equivalent of a statement wall, except it actually does something.
Our wide bookshelves are built from solid domestic hardwood — real walnut or white oak — handcrafted in our Missouri workshop and made to your exact dimensions. No particle board. No veneers. No hollow cores. Just real wood, proper joinery, and a shelf that's built to span a wall and hold everything you put on it.

Why Width Changes Everything
A wide bookshelf does things a narrow one simply can't:
- It fills dead wall space — Every home has a wall that's too wide for a single piece of furniture and too awkward to leave empty. A wide bookshelf solves that problem permanently.
- It creates visual continuity — A shelf that runs most of the length of a wall creates a horizontal line that grounds the room and makes the space feel intentional rather than assembled.
- It holds a real collection — Wide shelving means you can actually organize your books, objects, and art the way you want to — with room to breathe between sections, not crammed into whatever space is left.
- It becomes a room feature — At sufficient width, a bookshelf stops being furniture and starts being architecture. It's the thing guests notice, comment on, and remember.
- It balances large rooms — In a spacious living room or open-plan space, a wide bookshelf provides the visual weight and horizontal anchor the room needs to feel complete.
Built for the Span
Wide shelving puts unique demands on construction. A shelf spanning 72" or more needs to be built differently than a narrow piece — the wood needs to be thicker, the joinery needs to be stronger, and the structure needs to account for the load across a longer span. Here's how we build for width:
- Solid hardwood shelves throughout — Milled to the thickness required for the span. No particle board, no hollow cores, no flex.
- Proper joinery — Mortise and tenon, dado joints, and dowel construction where appropriate. Built to hold under load across the full width.
- Custom depth available — Standard depth works for most books and objects. Deeper shelves available for equipment, oversized reference materials, or anything that needs more room.
Finish Options
Satin Clear Finish
A smooth, hard-wearing topcoat that enhances the wood's natural color and grain with a clean, consistent sheen. The practical choice for wide shelving that's going to hold a lot and get used constantly. Protects against moisture, scratches, and daily wear. Easy to maintain.
Rubio Monocoat — Penetrating Oil Finish
A furniture-grade penetrating oil that soaks into the wood fibers rather than coating the surface. The result is a matte, tactile finish that feels completely natural. On a wide bookshelf, the Rubio finish gives the piece a depth and quality that's apparent from across the room. Available in six colors:
- Natural — The wood's true color, unaltered. The most honest finish we offer.
- White — A soft white wash that brightens the wood while keeping the grain visible.
- Cotton White — Warmer and creamier. Beautiful with warm neutrals and organic textures.
- Light Grey — Cool, modern, and clean. Especially effective on wide White Oak shelving.
- Dark Grey — Deeper and more dramatic. Adds weight and sophistication at any scale.
- Modern Black — The boldest option. A wide bookshelf in Modern Black on White Oak is a genuinely extraordinary piece of furniture.
